Oh, I LOVED that movie with Michael York and Simon MacCorkindale! :) And I had completely forgotten it was partly filmed around the Frisian Islands!!! I just looked it up on wiki (isn't the internet marvelous!) and discovered that the scene where Carruthers and Davies are navigating their way between sandbanks in the Frisian Islands was actually shot on Frensham Ponds in Surrey!!! And that they needed nine large fog machines to create the atmospheric fog. Now I'll have to see if I can find it on DVD and watch it. :) And thank you re the differences in the harnesses. And why I love reading historical novels (when I get the chance). They are entertaining but you learn something too. And if you are spurred on to do further reading on the topic, well that's a major success for the author. A bit like how I used to teach history to high school students. :) Enjoy checking out the sources, there are some great primary sources in there, too. I had to re-familiarize myself with the poem (there's a book and TV series too, isn't there?) and I see there is a map - with most of the action taking place in Scandinavia, but part of Frisia too! :) I guess it must be the landscape - it's so atmospheric - which is what drew me to the area for my fictitious principality. I'm one of those writers that if I can't get the details right, I can't write the story properly. So I obsess about the details! :) Glad you enjoyed the post. I studied maps of the many German principalities within the Holy Roman Empire trying to come up with something that would be plausible and distinctive, but to be honest I woke up from a dream with the name and wrote it down on my scribble pad. So I must have figured it out in my sleep. I love the treckshuiten!

The differences between the harnesses of a troika and those of the English three-horse equipage of Unicorn are marked as Troika has three abreast, and Unicorn has two wheelers and a leader.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03121102757759349165noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839525549786745818.post-63751056059088986952015-11-17T18:03:30.234+00:002015-11-17T18:03:30.234+00:00One of the things I love most about reading Histor...One of the things I love most about reading Historical romance novels is the fact that I learn some interesting historical facts I never knew before.
