I suspect the time corresponding between her estate and Colonel Berkeley's lawyers (her eldest daughter's family has the original letter) stopping her yearly stipend is the cause of the January/February 1883 dates British sources give. (I'm her 3rd great granddaughter).Margohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01013080430664640164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839525549786745818.post-46289590806300005452016-12-14T18:24:20.552+00:002016-12-14T18:24:20.552+00:00Thanks kindly for your comments. As to the Berkeley fiasco, it's a long story, complicated but fascinating on a human, legal, women's and social history level, and for the way it intertwines with the major events of its day, the 5th Earl of Berkeley having been very close to Prinny. No, I'm not related to Mary Cole, but do think it's a bit spooky that my full name now incorporates hers which it didn't when I set out to research her story way back!Rosy Colehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14182630986468743145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839525549786745818.post-60551614948341250752016-12-14T18:20:22.645+00:002016-12-14T18:20:22.645+00:00Very welcome!Very welcome!Rosy Colehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14182630986468743145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839525549786745818.post-3750772060441955922016-03-17T14:36:48.751+00:002016-03-17T14:36:48.751+00:00Great information. He was said to have intimidated his much younger legitimate brother who really was the earl. Is Ms. Cole related to Mary Cole? One quibble-- it probably needs it be made clear that Byron left England in 1816 . Will go visit the Cole site.Regencyresearcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10828749339318882968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839525549786745818.post-67452250180965081722016-02-02T09:57:27.088+00:002016-02-02T09:57:27.088+00:00Merci, Rosy, for your wonderful tales!Merci, Rosy, for your wonderful tales!Catherine Curzonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05763562687608837832noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839525549786745818.post-30212832152997683002016-01-13T09:48:49.918+00:002016-01-13T09:48:49.918+00:00I am honoured by Madame's hospitality today.
