He will have known Oadby well. He attended the Wyggeston School in Leicester and the the Old Wyggestonian Rugby Club were based in Oadby, later merging with the Oadby RFC to become Oadby Wyggestonians. Atter's played for Wyggy School 1st XV and turned out later now and again for one or other of the old boy teams. He says very little now, actually nothing about his rugby, but it got him his place at Cambridge rather than the science derived from bug hunting.
